Seen It:

The Killing

I randomly found this series on instant Netflix. I saw that it had really high reviews and was recommended for me. Typically Netflix’s rec’s are pretty accurate for me, so I decided to give it a try. After immediately being sucked in with the first episode, I quickly watched the entire first season, which only has 13 episodes. The second season just started this month, but it’s on cable so I have to wait to watch it. I was so enthralled with this series that I also got my whole family hooked, so I watched it all again. It’s heartbreaking, but also shows the reality of a tragedy and shares multiple points of view. It’s not just the family that is affected, but also many others whose lives are intertwined in this story.

The Hunger Games

UM. AMAZEBALLS. This movie really did the book justice. It was fun to watch the story, that I had just read, come to life. It was hard to watch some of the scenes, especially when people in the audience would ignorantly applaud. It was the Capital, who they should be fighting and not each other.

Jane Eyre

I have this book, but I’ve never read it (shame on me). I honestly didn’t know what the story was about. The synopsis on IMDB describes perfectly it in one sentence,  “A mousy governess who softens the heart of her employer soon discovers that he's hiding a terrible secret.” It was a great movie and I really loved the cinematography! Now I should really read the book, huh?

Being Elmo: A Puppeteer’s Journey

This was another Netflix recommendation and I’m so happy I added it to the instant queue. The story was about the man behind Elmo, his journey and how he went after his dreams. The whole family loved it! It was funny and heart-warming. I also loved it because I was a puppeteer for 8 years, so it brought back memories of my middle school and high schools days. We had an amazing puppet ministry at church and it was so much fun to be a part of!

It’s Complicated

I know this has been out for a couple years, but I finally got around to watching it this week. I LOVE Steve Martin [see HERE] and so I knew it was going to be a pretty fun movie.

I honestly haven’t been listening to anything new. Just Tyrone Wells on repeat. And I’m okay with that. :) See [THIS] & [THIS].

I’m so thankful for my wonderful friend Janelle! I had wanted to read The Hunger Games series, but couldn’t afford to buy it on my Nook and didn’t want to wait for it on the library’s LONG waiting list. I remembered that Janelle had them and asked if she’d be able to send them to me, which she did. The day I got them in the mail Heather started them and finished them in two days. It took me about three days to read them all and then my dad read them too. The books were fascinating and heartbreaking. I’m obsessed! I love Katniss, Gale and Peeta! I’m definitely going to invest in my own copies on Nook when I have the money.

Amish Grace

My mom had put this on the Netflix queue and I really didn’t know what it was about.  Kimberly Williams Paisley starred in it.  This was a made for TV movie.  It was the story of the shooting in the Amish school in 2006.  It was intense and heartbreaking, but a great story of family, community and forgiveness.

Hot In Cleveland

A friend at the Crafting Retreat recommended this show.  It’s almost like a spin on the Golden Girls.  It’s based around three women who get stranded in Cleveland after their flight to Paris makes an emergency landing.  They noticed that the men in Cleveland actually paid attention to them, unlike in Los Angeles where the men looked passed them to the 20 year olds behind them.  It’s hilarious and I love that my parents, especially my dad love it too!

Dear Jack

The sister put this on the queue.  It’s a documentary about Andrew McMahon from Jack’s Mannequin when he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in 2005.  It features self-recorded footage as he went through treatment.  It was really interesting and I’m glad the sister recommended it.

City of Ember

This is such a fun and interesting story!  This was the second time I’ve watched it and I think I’d like to own it.  It’s based on a book, which now I think I’d like to find at the library.  To preserve humankind in the middle of a nuclear war, the Builders of the underground “City of Ember” decide that they should remain underground for 200 years.  The instructions are given to and passed on from mayor to mayor.  One of the mayors dies suddenly and the instructions were never properly passed on.  The movie follows Lina and Doon who both realize their city is crumbling and will soon be extinguished and they do everything they can to save it.

Heard It

Miranda Lambert: Four the Record

Um, LOVE.  What can I say about Miranda?  She’s just so sassy and fun!  I listen to this over and over until ALL of the songs are simultaneously stuck in my head.

The Band Perry

I’d heard about 3 of their songs on the radio that I really liked, so it was no surprise that I really enjoyed their whole album.  I wish I would have been able to see them in concert when they were in Boise a month ago.

Tyrone Wells: Where We Meet

I didn’t think I’d be able to get his new CD when it came out on March 6th, but my mom gave me an itunes gift card that she didn’t want. I’ve been listening to it non-stop since. His tour just started so check to see if he’ll be coming your way soon!

Anticipatience by Sharon Virkler

Anticipatience is a “New word of hope for single women.”  Everyone knows I couldn’t be MORE single.  I’ve read ALL the books.  We know this.  But this book is different.  I recommend it for all single women.  When I re-read it this time I took lots of notes.  I’m hoping to put all my notes together for a blog post soon-ish.

Kris Jenner…and All Things Kardashians

As you can probably tell by looking at my past posts, I really enjoy celebrity biographies.  This one was particularly interesting.  I’m a fan of the Kardashians and was excited to read more about their lives from Kris’ perspective.  I didn’t realize how much she and her family were tied to Nicole & OJ Simpson and how involved they were in the case.  Of course I knew Robert was one of OJ’s attorneys, but it was really sad and fascinating to read a different perspective about all of it.  Kris has really overcome a lot in her life and has worked hard to get to where she is.

I Got This by Jennifer Hudson

I was excited to read this book too, because I love J-Hud.  BUT this book turned into a Weight Watchers commercial.  I ended up skimming the end of it because I was getting a little bored with all the WW talk.  While I think it’s good for her that WW helped her and she’s excited about it and want to share it with everyone, I wasn’t in the mood for an infomercial.  I wouldn’t recommend this.  Bummer.

Music Monday: Tyrone Wells

One day about a month or so ago, I was driving home from work and someone on the radio mentioned something about Tyrone Wells coming back to Boise. I was annoyed because by the time I got home they still hadn't announced any of the details.  I hopped on the computer and found out that he was going to be in Boise on March 21st.  I instantly tweeted about how excited I was and heard back from Tyrone a little bit later.  Heather and I ended up being able to do merch for him again.

It was nice to be back at The Knitting Factory because there's a lot more room for the merch.  We met some great people.  Joe Brooks opened for Tyrone. He was great and we ended up getting his cd.  Tyrone's set was amazing. He played a little bit of something for all of his albums. It was great to hear him play from his new album and share about the different songs. We were able to chat with him before we left and congratulate him on his new baby girl. He's such an awesome guy; it's always great to see him!

Music Monday: Tyrone Wells

You may have already seen Heather's post HERE about when we went to see Tyrone Wells, but I couldn't NOT post about it too. I knew for a month or so that Tyrone was coming back to Boise so I sent him a tweet asking if he'd need help with merch again. He said yes and Heather and I couldn't wait! It's a great way to see a show for free, especially being very broke right now.

It was great to see Tyrone and Mark again! They're both so friendly and genuine. It's always refreshing to meet people like that. The show was great and the merch table was close to the stage! It was at a bar, so unfortunately there were the annoying drunk people that got too loud. Tyrone ended up stopping one song because no one would quiet down, which was unfortunate. Heather and I were just glad we had the merch table as a barrier from some of the crazies because I don't like dealing with crowds like that. Anyway, Tyrone played some new songs and I'm really looking forward to his new album coming out, in hopefully the near future. I look forward to attending many more of his shows!

SEEN IT

1. Curly Sue



I loved watching this when I was little. Curly Sue is such a sassy little girl. My favorite line from the movie has to be, "Slap my butt, no way!" Haha! It's funny, but also sweet. It's a classic.

2. The Goonies



Heyyy you guys! Who doesn't love The Goonies? It was hilarious to watch this with my parents! Even though they'd seen it before, it had been a long time and everything was so much funnier.

3. The Closer, Season One and Season Two





Since my family doesn't have cable, I've missed this show like crazy! I'm so sad that it's not on Instant Netflix, but luckily the library has it. I love Deputy Chief Brenda Lee Johnson!

HEARD IT

1. Taylor Swift: Speak Now



I swear that every single album Taylor makes is amazing! I finally just got this one a couple weeks ago. She is so down-to-earth and honest. I love that she writes her own songs. Her music is relatable, real and fun.

2. Mumford and Sons: Sigh No More

I don't think I can even begin to say how much I love this! I want to wrap myself in it's sweet goodness. It's glorious!

I've already expressed how much I love Tyrone! I don't think there's much more to say. This is one cd that I could never get tired of listening to.

READ IT

1. Between a Rock and a Hard Place by Aron Ralston



I finished this a couple days ago and oh my goodness!! Although parts of it made me sick to my stomach, it was so emotional and powerful! I definitely think everyone should read it. Read quickly through the gross parts, but read it. I really want to see the movie now, but I'm kind of nervous I'll get sick. I think I might make myself go and pray for my stomach because I know it'll be worth it.

This is one of my favorite quotes from the book.


2. Romans 14 (The Message)



We read this passage last week in Bible Study. My mom and I started laughing in the middle of it, because of my recent change to being vegetarian. Obviously the passage is not just about eating meat or not, but it was interesting to read after I've made this change, because it came with a change in perspective. This is one of the things that isn't black and white in the Bible. This is about respecting each other, not judging others for their choices, and not being a stumbling block for others with the choices you make. I love reading different versions of it. 3. Kendi Everyday



Heather introduced me to this blog a month or so ago. It's easily become one of my new favorite blogs to read. She's cute, stylish, down-to-earth and fun! Her 30 by 30 Remixes are inspiring! I think Heather and I might do our own versions of 30 for 30 starting in January.

Music Monday: Tyrone Wells

Music Monday: Tyrone Wells

Heather walked into our room last Tuesday night and was like "Heyyyy, Tyrone Wells just tweeted that he needs merch help tomorrow night." I was like, "Um, what's the email address?" So I emailed that night and got a response on Wednesday saying that they'd love our help. We left work early because I (stupidly) scheduled two photoshoots for school that afternoon. We got home I did one shoot, took a 30 minute nap, showered, did another photoshoot, ate dinner and then we headed downtown to The Knitting Factory.

We had a fabulous time! We'd never seen Tyrone before because the timing was never right. He is amazing to see live and tells some great stories. His voice is incredible; it's so smooth and it just cuts right through you. You just want to wrap yourself in his music. We were able to meet him afterwards and he was sooo nice! We were also able to meet his drummer and tour manager, Mark, who set us up at the merch table. It's great meeting genuine people who are doing what they love. P.S. Tyrone and his wife, Elina just released an album called Different As Can Be, and it's absolutely adorable. Like, so cute and barfy that it physically hurts. Their relationship is beautiful and one that I dream of. They sang three songs together at the show and they were so great! Check out Tyrone and Elina here.
